Italians Protest Peru Embassy Assault

ROME, April 29 (AFP) - Some 1,000 people marched Tuesday outside the Peruvian embassy in Rome to protest the death of 14 Tupuc Amaru guerrillas at the Japanese embassy in Lima last week, a police official said.

The demonstration was called by several Italian far-left organizations and the Refounded Communist Party.

No incidents were reported, although a similar protest last week -- after Peruvian security forces assaulted the Japanese embassy to free the guerrillas' hostages -- saw clashes with police.

One of the leaders of Tuesday's protest, ecologist Paolo Cento, said the deaths of the guerrillas was "a cold-blooded execution worthy of the worst Nazism".
