HAMBURG, Germany, July 2 (Reuter) - The German city state of Hamburg said on Wednesday it wanted to ban political activity by the international spokesman for the Marxist rebel group involved in Peru's hostage crisis. The Hamburg Senate said public statements made by Isaac Velazco on behalf of Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) rebels, who held hostages in the Japanese ambassador's home in Lima for four months, had supported the use of violence to achieve political goals. Velazco, who lives in Hamburg, has four weeks in which to appeal against the city's decision. The German government asked Hamburg to end Velazco's political activity in April after Peruvian troops stormed the residence in Lima, freeing all but one of the 72 hostages and killing all 14 MRTA rebels. Bonn's move followed a Peruvian media report that the Peruvian Foreign Ministry had asked Germany to cancel the political asylum status granted to Velazco in 1993. Velazco gave news conferences in several European cities and issued regular statements on behalf of the MRTA during the four-month siege. He says he carries United Nations travel documents and is a political exile from Peru. ---- Con las Masas y las Armas, Patria o Muerte ... VENCEREMOS!
