April 23, 1997 Companeros National Directorate of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA): Please accept, from the National Directorate, militants and combatants of the National Liberation Army (ELN) of Colombia our embraces and our shouts of solidarity in these moments of pain and rage for all Latin American revolutionary movements. Today, as in the past, the Fujimori regime has scattered tombstones across the Peruvian map and has attacked all principles of international human rights by assassinating the members of the "Edgar Sanchez commando" who with their mystique and heroism have left us with the profound lesson of their limitless sacrifice for the cause of the poor of the earth. Contrast the criminal behavior of the fascists with the behavior of the MRTA companeros during the original taking of the embassy when, with all the world watching, they demonstrated a profound respect for the lives of their prisoners of war. They are mistaken who think that the blood and fire attack on the embassy by the military and oligarchy of Peru is the last straw for the Peruvian revolutionaries, who think that it is the last nail in the coffin of the struggle for democracy, justice, bread and dignity. Thousands of tyrants have thought and acted like this throughout history. Today their bones and thoughts lie in museum archives, condemned to irrelevance. The ELN of Colombia pays tribute and admiration to the "Edgar Sanchez Commando", and their example will be exalted in all of our Guerrilla Fronts and Internal Structures as symbols of dignity and limitless commitment. The continental cause of the defense or peoples' and nations' interests is, today, more present and relevant than ever, just as was taught to us by the unforgettable Commandante "Che" Guevara. In this sense we forge an ironlike unity among all Latin American revolutionaries who continue to struggle and dream for a society more just and dignified for all. With profound affection, admiration and respect for you: National Direction of the National Liberation Army Honor And Glory For The "Edgar Sanchez Commando"!
